MORE ON THE WB'S CANCELLATION OF 'ANGEL,' 'ROSWELL' AND 'POPULAR'
by Brian Ford Sullivan
Those of you who didn't check in with us over the
weekend missed a special update as we
received confirmation on news that the WB will
indeed cancel sophomore dramas "Angel,"
"Roswell," and "Popular" when it announces its
schedule next Tuesday. A few sources e-mailed
us with this information earlier this week
however it wasn't until I had confirmation from
my reliable network sources that I posted the
news.
Furthermore, Variety reported on Friday that all
three of these series (plus "Buffy the Vampire
Slayer") would be removed from the WB's
schedule indefinitely beginning in June in favor
of additional airings of "7th Heaven," "Sabrina,
the Teenage Witch," and "Popstars" plus a new
movie night on Tuesday from Warner Bros.
library of titles. Even if all my sources were
incorrect, that news alone should tell you the
WB has no interest in keeping these series on
its schedule any longer than May sweeps.
THE FUTURE OF 'ANGEL'
UPN is now obligated to pick up the show for two
seasons and the network will keep the series in
its Tuesday, 9/8c time slot with "Buffy the
Vampire Slayer" remaining as its lead-in.
