Buffy Summers is not like
other girls. She's been chosen to save the world from the vampire plague,
and balancing saving the world with high school is no easy task. Presenting
an all-new adventure of everyone's favorite slayer, written by Andi Watson,
the creator of Skeleton Key, Joe Bennett, and Rick Ketcham, artist on Superman
and Journey into Mystery.
Jeffy says:
Set
in Season 2 sometime. Buffy stakes a vampire with the heel of her
shoe, something I don't think has happened on the show. So you can
tell the difference between vampires and humans, vampires are gray.
After defeating the vampires, Buffy is told she will make a worthy opponent
by a mysterious person (or maybe not a person!!) in Asian outfit &
a straw hat. After Xander's pathetic attempt at fighting the vampires,
he decides to take some fighting lessons. What they say holds true
to the characters. The artistry is good, meaning Xander has the Xander
look. Willow, Buffy, and Cordelia do look different from their TV
counterparts. The artists have taken the time to show the subtle
differences between the characters' facial features. Overall, it
shows great promise for the comic book series.
Overall
score: 7/10
Anna says:
Art:
2/5 Xander, Oz, and Giles looked just like themselves, and Buffy
and Willow weren't too bad, but was that supposed to be Cordelia?
She was only on two pages and that has to be because the artist had no
idea how to draw her. Also, what was with the vampires? They
looked more like deformed animals with red glowing eyes than the vamps
on the show. I can understand the gray skin to distinguish them from
people, but do they need to look that weird?
Cover:
2/5 I like the vamps in the back (though, do they need to be drooling?),
but Buffy looks NOTHING like Sarah Michelle Gellar!!
Story:
3/5 Not too bad for the first try. I liked the Xander storyline
because it fits very well with his feelings of being un-unique on the show
(think "The Zeppo"), but why was he always telling Buffy not to pun?
She always has great puns on the show! Oh well.

score: 2.5/5

Halloween

With the approach of Halloween,
Sunnydale experiences an increase in vampire-related murders. The search
for the perpetrators is called to a halt on All Hallow's Eve and Buffy
looks forward to an uneventful night of trick or treating with her friends
. . . but how uneventful will it stay? The killers are still on the loose
and there was that one house that refused to answer the door...
Jeffy says:
Okay,
right away I'm confused about when this is set. The principal is
someone other than Principal Snyder (I think it is Snyder, Jeffy, he just
looks nothing like him) and Willow & Oz are serious. The time-frame
of the comics is definitely confusing. An interesting story dealing
with Willow being kidnapped. I don't think they have caught Oz's
manner right yet.
Overall
score: 5/10
Anna says:
Art:
2/5 Buffy looks pretty good, and Oz, Xander, and Giles still look
great, but Willow looks nothing like Alyson Hannigan. She also has
dark brown hair in her, which just makes her look worse. And the
green male vampires!! Where did that come from? I thought it was
funny that the females vamps look almost like the vamps on the show, but
the males became strange green monsters when attacking.
Cover:
5/5 I love this cover!! It actually looks just like Buffy should!!
Story:
3.5/5 Just average. Nothing too spectacular. I think
it would have been better if Angel was in it, instead of just being mentioned.
I enjoyed the Willow storyline about her parents not wanting her to see
Oz, but I think the vampire parts could have used more development.
The vampires seem pretty empty as characters.

score: 3.5/5

Cold Turkey
Written by: Andi Watson
Pencilled by: Joe Bennett

Cover by: Joe Bennett
Buffy Summers' horrific
holiday season continues as Turkey Day rolls into Sunnydale. The day before
begins as hectic as any past Thanksgiving, save for one exception: some
strange goings-on around the house have set Buffy's mind a flutter. What
happened to the vampire that survived the fateful Halloween massacre? Who's
been digging through her family's trash at night? And why do so many people
wait until the last minute to go grocery shopping?!
Jeffy says:
It
is hard to tell Cordelia from Willow since they both seem to have brown
hair and eyes and no obvious differences in facial features. The
scene with Giles bagging on Buffy for getting new weapons and then discarding
them the next day was perfect. After reading this, I don't think
I will be going grocery shopping at 2:30am, not that I can figure out why
anyone would want to anyway. Lots of fun puns.

score: 7/10

Art:
4.5/5 I'm so impressed!! Everyone finally looks just as they
should!! Yay!! I still think the green vampire thing is silly,
but I've resigned myself to it. At least this vampire had better
detail than the others.
Cover:
3/5 Very nice artwork, but what did it have to do with the story?
I don't remember Willow & Xander being tied up, but maybe I missed
that part!!
Story:
4.5/5 Quite interesting and a definite improvement over the last
two! I like that we got more development with the Selke character,
though I'm still missing Angel! The part with Buffy wanting to order
medieval weapons and Giles admonishing her for always ordering weapons
and only using them once was classic. That's the Buffy humor I know
and love!! Willow forcing Oz to eat her cake and Xander's jokes werewolf
food jokes were great too.
