Xander Harris

  • Biography:

    Written by Zinna

Alexander "Xander" Harris was as a normal teenager trying to survive high school on a hellmouth. His sophomore year, however, things changed. He developed a crush on the new girl in town and she just happened to be the slayer. Little did he know that crush would pretty much affect his entire love-life to date.

Xander discovered his crush had a secret identity when he overheard Buffy arguing with Giles about her unwillingness to resume her slayer duties in Sunnydale a couple days after she'd arrive. Xander and Buffy became friends when they worked together with Willow to try to save Jesse, Xander's best friend (Welcome to the Hellmouth). Jesse had been lured away by Darla and taken to the Master for food. Once the Master found out that the slayer would come for him, he became bait (The Harvest). Unfortunately for Jesse, the slayer and her new friends were too late. Jesse was turned into a vampire and later Xander turned him to dust. Fortunately, for Xander and the slayer, the ordeal forged an incredible friendship, from which the Scooby gang was born (Buffy, Giles, Xander and Willow are often affectionately referred to as the Scooby gang because they pick up all the clues and foil villains' evil plans).

Xander harbored intense longing for Buffy, which for most part he kept under wraps until their first dance, to which Xander worked up the nerve to ask Buffy to with him. Buffy sweetly declined, indicating that she didn't like him that way (Prophecy Girl). This did not change their friendship or Xander's feelings about Buffy. Later that night, when Buffy died, Xander demanded Angel (a guy he didn't even get along with) go with him to save her. They found Buffy had drowned and Angel, being a vampire, had no breath to give her. In the end, Xander performed CPR and brought Buffy back to life. Had it not been for Xander, Buffy would have stayed dead that night.

Xander was not the only one with a crush. Willow was also bitten by the love bug, and carried an obvious torch for Xander. Xander pretended to be oblivious for the sake of their friendship. Except for a few entanglements with demons (Xander was seduced by a sexy substitute teacher that was really a preying mantis and he became slightly involved with an Incan Mummy that look like a beautiful young girl), Xander remained in the unrequited love triangle until Cordelia (Cordy) enlisted the Scooby gang's help her to protect her from an invisible terrorist. The invisible girl wanted to disfigure Cordy's beautiful face (Out of Mind, Out of Sight (a.k.a. the Invisible Girl)).

Following their ordeal with the invisible angry girl, Cordy became more and more involved in the evil fighting aspect of the Scooby gang. Though she denounced them in public, she was grateful for their help and offered her assistance from time to time.

Initially, Xander and Cordy engaged in endless prickly banter. Their banter often involved Xander attempting to belittle Cordy for being so shallow and rude, while Cordy countered his remarks by reminding him how much of dork everyone thought he was. These catfights ended up serving as a mask for their attraction for each other. Eventually, Cordy and Xander found themselves in compromising position that gave way to serious lip lock (What's My Line, part 2). At first they tried to fight it, claiming to be equally disgusted and engaging in more verbal bashing. Alas, the verbal bashing just worked them up and made it harder for them to keep their hands off of each other.

Xander and Cordy began to rendevous in janitor closets and other secluded areas to make-out. Cordy wanted to keep their relationship a secret because if word got out that she was getting together with Xander Harris, her hard-earned popularity would be in serious jeopardy. Xander agreed to keep their entanglements a secret because he didn't want his friends to know he would allow himself to be involved with someone he had spent so much time detesting.

After some time of fighting side by side against the dark night with Slayer and secretly making out, Xander and Cordy realized there was something more between them than lust. That Valentine's Day, Xander decided to take their relationship out of closet. He bought her a beautiful necklace and everything. Cordy decided their relationship was ruining her popularity and thought it best to break up with him. The break-up sent Xander reeling. Though he knew Cordy was shallow but he never thought she would hurt him like that. Xander wanted revenge so he convinced Amy Madison, a witch, to put a love spell on Cordy (Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered). The spell went terribly wrong; every female that laid eyes on Xander fell madly in love with him, while Cordy seemingly remained unaffected. An angry mob of women (mad at Xander for spurning their advances and mad at Cordelia for humiliating him in front the whole school) forced Xander and Cordy to hide in Buffy's basement. There, Xander admitted to Cordy that the spell was for her and Cordy admitted that she really did like Xander. Once the spell was broken, Cordy announced, despite the taunting of her friends, that she was dating Xander.

With Xander and Cordy's union, the Scoobies gained a new member. Initially, Willow was very hurt. She couldn't understand how Xander could choose a fashion bully like Cordy, over herself. Eventually, Willow got over it because Oz (who later became another member of the Scoobie gang) began to show quite an interest in her. All in all, the Scoobies remained intact, despite any hard feelings they may have suffered from their broken triangle.

Xander and Cordy's relationship grew over time and they became more and more inseparable until the homecoming dance. Xander and Willow, the best buds that they are, were hanging one afternoon, trying on various outfits for the homecoming dance. While dressed up in their party duds, something happened. Xander and Willow kissed (Homecoming). When they tried to talk about what a mistake it was, they kissed again. It makes sense; Willow had carried a small torch for Xander since they hit puberty and Xander was bound to wake up and smell the hotness of Willow sooner or later. Too bad that time came when both were heavily involved with other people - Cordy and Oz.

Xander really dug Cordy and wouldn't have hurt her for the world, but the thing with Willow just happened. Both Willow and Xander decided to check their feelings and keep the kissing incident a secret. They also decided not to let it happen again, but it happened again. Whenever they were alone they'd end up kissing. Neither could figure out what to do about it.

Willow decided to perform a spell that wouldl help her and Xander stay away from each other, but she was unable to perform it. Spike kidnapped both Xander and Willow because he wanted Willow to put a love spell on Drusilla, who had recently left him high and dry (Lover's Walk). Trapped in a deserted factory, and fearful their lives might come to an end, Willow and Xander indulged in a final kiss, just as Oz and Cordy came to rescue them. Cordy was completely devastated by the sight and ran away in a daze. Unfortunately, she stumbled on an unstable area in the floor and fell through to the basement, where she was impaled by a protruding metal beam. Oz was quite upset too.

Xander tried to contact Cordy to apologize and fix the damage done to their relationship. Cordy was so hurt, that as far as she was concerned, their relationship was over. Dealing with the ramifications of losing Cordy the way he did cured Xander of his urges to get it on with Willow once and for all. Besides, Willow wanted nothing to do with him in that way, once she convinced Oz to take her back. Once again, Xander was without a mate.

Following his break-up with Cordy, Xander continued to aid the misadventures of the Scooby gang. Cordy and Xander resumed their belittling and mocking routines, these a little more venomous then previous. Cordy enjoyed pointing out that Xander was the loser of his group. He had no extraordinary powers like Willow the wicca, Buffy the slayer and Oz the werewolf. In an effort to find his own "coolness factor" and to prove Cordy wrong, Xander got a really cool car (The Zeppo). Xander rolled his car into entanglements with recently dead homicidal maniacs that wanted to bomb the school.

In the midst of his adventures, Xander happened upon Faith, the sexually charged slayer that came to Sunnydale after Kendra died. He helped her make a clean getaway from a powerful nasty she couldn't defeat. Faith, all wound up from the fight, wanted to get some of her aggressions out by rolling around in the sack with Xander. Xander couldn't let a little thing like his being a virgin get in the way of his taking advantage of the golden opportunity. Well, let's face it kids, Faith is hot! Immediately, after he was expelled from Faith's bed, Xander had to pull it together to stop those crazies with the bomb. Xander came through in the clinch and many lives were saved, including the Scoobies, though he never claimed credit. He did, however, have the satisfaction of looking smug as Cordy tried to bait him that tired old loser bit, which had worked so well before.

Faith wasn't exactly relationship material, so their romp didn't land Xander in another weird relationship. Though it was apparent that Xander had the ability to care for Faith, if she allowed it. Instead, he found himself being asked to prom by the crazy ex-vengeance demon, Anya, which is kind of ironic because Anya came to Sunnydale to take vengeance on Xander for Cordy, the scorned ex (The Wish).

For lack of better options, Xander took Anya to the prom. Though Xander was a bit turned off by all of Anya's vengeance stories (she had 1,000 years worth), he wasn't completely opposed to spending more time with her. Anya grew fond of Xander. He was funny, charming, nice and very patient with her. She also noticed that he was very brave in the face of danger and incredibly loyal to his friends. Xander's pretty much all you could want in boyfriend and Anya was the first to figure that out right off the bat.

It wasn't long before the two found out they shared intense sexual chemistry. For a while Anya feared that Xander only cared for her in sexual way. She soon found out that was not the case when Xander beat the crap out of Spike because he thought Spike had hurt Anya (Hush). More then lovers, they became best friends, only really confiding in each other. After time, it was apparent to Xander that he loved Anya immensely and wouldn't know what to do without her in his life. So he proposed; he even shelled out for a really nice ring (The Gift). Anya, having only loved and confided in one person in her whole new existence as a ex-demon turned human, said yes and the two became engaged, which is currently were the couple stands. It was a long time coming but maybe Xander's finally found the one for him. You can never tell what's going to happen when your best friend's a slayer and you live on hell mouth.

I'm on a beach, but not one of those American beaches, one of those island beaches where the water's way too blue, and I'm laying on my towel, and it's just before sunset, and Gavin Rossdale's massaging my feet!
Oh, that's good! Uh, I'm in Florence, Italy, I've rented a scooter that's parked outside, and I'm in a little restaurant eating ziti, and there are no more tables left, so they have to seat this guy with me, and it's John Cusack!
Ooo! Very impressive. You have such an eye for detail.
    'Cause with the ziti!
