A man is running through a dark alley, when Connor steps out in front of him. He attacks the man, who reveals himself to be a vampire. While the vampire and Connor fight, Angel is on a rooftop, watching Connor, and commenting on his fighting style. Unbeknownst to Angel, Cordy is watching Connor as well, and she continues to plead with Angel to get her out of where she is. Her pleas fall on deaf ears, as Angel cannot hear her. After Connor dusts the vampire, Fred and Gunn emerge from the shadows of the building. They've followed Angel because they are worried about him - they aren't sure if he's lost the mission or not. Angel smiles at them, and says that the three of them are going to take a retreat. Sort of like the one Angel took to Tibet.
Angel, Gunn and Fred are driving down Las Vegas' main strip. Angel clearly has his mind on a break, while Fred keeps asking Angel if he is going to get read by Lorne - see if Lorne can figure out what is going on. They head over to the Tropicana, where they see a huge billboard advertising Lorne.
Inside the Tropicana, women in scanty outfits and green make up are on stage, when Lorne comes out. He begins to sing, and Angel, Gunn and Fred watch him from a table. Lorne finishes his first number, then proceeds out into the crowd for his second one ("Lady Marmalade"). The Fang Gang is disappointed when Lorne passes by them without even feigning interest. Instead, he pays more attention to a young woman named Vivian, who is studying to become a cook. Lorne finishes his number, and heads backstage, where his adoring public awaits him - including a slightly miffed Gunn, a hopeful Fred, and an unenthusiastic-about-singing Angel. Once again, Lorne ignores the Fang Gang, and heads into his room. Angel tries to get to Lorne, but is stopped by some heavily armed bodyguards. A bodyguard asks Lorne who the Fang Gang is, and he just says they are old fans of his.
In his room, Lorne is brought a drink by a "Lornette" and he sits down to relax. He doesn't have much of a chance, because Lee, the owner of the casino, enters. Lorne avoids telling Lee what Lee wants to know - he says he's tired, and would rather do it later. Lee forces Lorne, however, and Lorne reveals the destinies of several people, including Vivian, to Lee. With this new knowledge, Lee leaves Lorne's room which is locked and bolted behind him. Lorne isn't there of his free will anymore - he's a prisoner.
A man is pacing in Wesley's room, as Wesley talks on his cordless phone, making plans to take Angel's clients while he is out of town. Another call comes through, and it is Lilah. Wesley looks over at the man in his room, and asks him why he is still there. Once the man is gone, Wesley shares some disturbing talk (i.e. phone sex) with Lilah.
Fred and Gunn are sitting down at a black jack table, with Angel standing over them. He's concerned that Lorne hasn't contacted them. When he spots a Lornette, he picks up a napkin, and scribbles out a note to Lorne. Before he can reach the Lornette, she presents Vivian with a chip to play in their special spin to win game. She heads over to the special area, while Angel tries to convince the Lornette to help him. She doesn't make any promises, and walks off. Angel looks around him at the people playing the slot machines. They are slack-jawed, and something seems off. He's picking up on it, as is Cordy from above.
Fred is doing amazingly well at the black jack table, but she feels guilty. She wants to find Lorne. As she discusses this with Gunn, two men in black suits grab Angel. When Fred turns to find Angel, he is gone. She and Gunn leave the table to see if they can find Lorne themselves.
The two men have taken Angel out back, and are beating the living daylights out of him. That is, if Angel had living daylights to be beaten out. Angel goes feral, and knocks out the two guards. He then notices Vivian walking aimlessly into the street. As she is about to be hit by a car, Angel grabs her, and pulls her out of the way. She was looking for quarters, because she ran out. She tells Angel that she needs to play to win.
Fred and Gunn have found Lorne's room, and aren't comforted by the high security around it. They wouldn't be able to force their way to his room. suddenly, Fred gets an idea.
A Lornette walks up to the guards outside Lorne's room, with a drink for him. The guards remark that Lorne has already had his drink, when the Lornette (really Fred in disguise) says that she was told to come. The guards make some lewd comments, and Fred goes into the room, but is first stopped by one of the guards -she missed putting green pain a spot on the back of her neck.
Lorne almost hits Fred in the head with a whiskey bottle when he realizes that she isn't who he thought she'd be (i.e. Lee). He is shocked when he realizes it is her - he couldn’t believe how long it took for them to rescue him. Fred is confused - she wasn't aware that Lorne needed rescuing. Lorne says he told her every time he called - when he asked about their non-existent dog, Fluffy. Apparently, that is the universal code for "Help! I'm being kept prisoner!" Lorne tells Fred that Lee is using him to destroy other people's lives.
Angel walks into the special game room area, and is stopped by some guards. The guards let up, however, when Lee tells them to. He tosses Angel a chip, inviting him to play, but Angel isn't there for games. He tosses the chip, which lands on the game table. Lee uses magic to move it into betting position. Angel tries to find out what is going on, but he is interrupted by the dealer saying "house wins." Angel looks at the table, and frowns. He goes slack-jawed, and is given a cup of quarters by Lee - he needs to play to win now too.
Fred comes out of Lorne's room screaming - he's escaped! She tells an elaborate story to the guards, and they go into Lorne's room to check it out. Lorne sneaks out, and they lock the guards in, and make their escape.
In a back room of the casino, Lee is watching a stock market-like ticker tape display. But instead of displaying the worth of shares, it displays destinies. Destinies that have been collected using the spin to win game. One of Lee's men, Spencer, informs Lee that Angel is a vampire, with a soul. Lee asks Spencer to tell the brokers about this, and to notify Wolfram and Hart. Before Spencer can do this, however, the telephone rings.
Gunn, Fred (less the green paint) and Lorne make their escape out of the casino, but before leaving, Gunn spots Angel, playing the slot machine. He asks Angel for his car keys, and to buy them time to escape. Angel agrees, never taking his eyes off of the slot machine. After Gunn leaves, and the securities guards go by, Angel is still playing the slots. Gunn, Fred and Lorne make it out of the casino, but instead of making it to the main street, they end up at Glitter Gulch. They turn to go back through the casino, but there are security guards on their tale. Lorne tells them that Lee is destroying people's lives by using Lorne to pick out the people with the most promising destinies. The people go through life passively….like Angel is now. No purpose, no destiny -- just "playing to win." Gunn wants to know why Lorne didn't refuse to help, and Lorne tells them that he did. And by refusing, one of his Lornettes was killed. And Lee promised Lorne that any time he refused, another girl would die. As the guards approach closer, Lorne grabs a microphone, and sings an excruciatingly high note, buying them more time to escape.
They arrive at the front of the casino, but Gunn refuses to leave without Angel. He goes in to get Angel, but is unable to convince him to leave the slots. Gunn is grabbed by a guard, and more guards bring in Fred and Lorne.
Lee feigns relief to see Lorne back, after missing one of his shows. He tells Lorne that he's going to be in quite a bit of pain - his friends are all going to die.
Up in the higher plane, Cordy looks down at her friends. She doesn't see the point of being some mystical-glowy thing if she can't help them. Seeing Angel still at the slot machine, she gets an idea. She needs to get Angel into the room where the rest of the Fang Gang is.
As Lee tells Spencer to take Fred and Gunn into the desert to shoot them, Angel gets three diamonds on his slot machine - He won! Lee tells Spencer to bring up Angel. He wants answers from Angel - but he is disinterested when he notices that Angel is still slack-jawed. Lee decides it was a fluke. He tells his men to give Angel his winnings in quarters, and send him on his merry way. He is distracted when Gunn is beaten to the floor by a guard. Angel vamps out, and begins fighting to save his friends. Lorne manages to free himself, and spots a glowing orb that Lee is eager to protect. Lorne grabs the orb, and throws it. It smashes, and light begins streaming out of it. One of the beams of light hits Vivian, another hits Angel, and the rest hit other people in the casino. They all start, as if being woken up from a dream - they have their destinies back.
The Fang Gang walks out of the casino, as Angel remembers why that backroom of the casino looked familiar - he was there in 1967 for Elvis and Prisilla's wedding (he also met the Rat Pack a couple of times as well). They leave the casino, and head for home.
Angel isn't sure why he was able to fight if he had no destiny. Lorne says it is because his friends are part of his destiny, and nobody can take them away from him. Lorne hurries into the hotel (he needs to visit the washroom), while Gunn, Fred and Angel take their time entering. Angel stops - Cordelia is in the lobby of the hotel, in the same flowing white clothes she wore in "Tomorrow." It is Cordy alright - but she doesn't remember anything. Not who Angel, Fred, or Gunn are, or herself.
