The Fang Gang stares at Lilah. She finally breaks the silence by telling Angel he's not the only one that gets to come back from hell. She's parched, and asks for some ice water, but Wes says that she isn't there. Everyone looks at him, and Lilah says there's a signed dollar bill in his wallet that says otherwise. Angel tells Wes that it really is her; he can sense her. She's still dead, but she's not a vampire. Angelus drank from her, but she was already dead when he came along. Wes made sure she wouldn't come back if she was though -- she shows everyone the scar on her neck where Wes decapitated her. Lilah is only a messenger. Once she's done here, she goes back to hell. Her contract with Wolfram and Hart extends beyond death. She's been authorized to make a deal with the Fang Gang because they've won. She knows they're going to take the deal, because it is the deal of a lifetime -- just not hers.

There's a long silence. Everyone stares at each other, and Lilah picks lint off of her shirt. Finally, Gunn breaks the silence by asking Lilah to run the deal by them again. She's offered them the LA branch of Wolfram and Hart. The senior partners are giving them LA and are letting them have controlling interests in the office. Fred remembers that the Beast destroyed everything, but it has been re-staffed and rebuilt. Fred and Gunn make sure Lilah knows that they aren't evil or lawyers. Angel wants to know why they're being offered the office, and Lilah says it is their reward for ending world peace. Jasmine was so close to eliminating all of the hate and violence from the world, and they undid it. The Fang Gang is silent as they take this in. They didn't end world peace; Jasmine was creating a slave state. Of course, the slaves were all happy and loved each other. Angel brings up that she was eating people. Lilah says that was the price to say for world peace. She only ate a few dozen people a day but she was going to end the suffering of millions. Lilah starts for the door, and tells them to think about her proposal. There will be a limo waiting outside for them to take the tour of the offices just before dawn. Before leaving, she once again congratulates the team on ending world peace. The seeds of doubt have been planted.

Los Angeles is still in turmoil. Connor moves through this turmoil lost in his thoughts. A man pacing on the top of a building finally catches his attention. Connor heads up onto the roof and talks to the man, a police officer. The officer walks close to the edge of the roof, handling his gun. He's confused and he's lost something that he needs to find again. Connor tries to calm him down by telling him it is okay. Connor can't help the man find what he's lost, it's gone. Upset, the officer starts to point his gun at his head. Connor tells him that he doesn't want to kill himself. Everyone is going through the feelings of loss, and he's needed on the street to help keep the peace. Connor thinks that the feelings of loss will go away. He wants the officer to go home and not do anything stupid on the way. The man remembers what home is -- it's his daughter and his wife. He brings out his wallet and shows Connor a picture of them. Connor gets angry -- he can't believe the man was going to leave his family. The man apologizes because he wasn't thinking. When the man thanks Connor for making him realize that, Connor calms down and starts to leave. Suddenly, he turns on the officer and starts beating him into the ground, screaming at the man. Connor's lost control.

Wes is looking at maps, trying to find out where Connor and Cordy are. Gunn remarks how they need to put a leash on him since they spend half their time looking for him. Wes says they will work in an expanding perimeter. Gunn thinks that will take weeks, and Wes tells him that if he has a better idea, he'd be willing to hear it. Gunn thinks the search might be easier if they had a state-of-the-art operation. Apparently, he's considering taking Wolfram and Hart up on their offer. Wes goes stiff and looks away. Gunn knows it must have been hard for him to see Lilah again after having to decapitate her. Wes remarks that you don't exactly expect to see a loved one again after decapitating them.

As Angel pulls on a shirt, he and Fred walk into the lobby to met Lorne. Lorne's managed to find out a lot, but not about Connor or Cordy. It's a mess out in the city. Wes hasn't found out much from the information that Angel gave him. It will be hard to find Connor, especially if he doesn't want to be found. Angel says they will find him, whatever it takes. Gunn begins to tell Angel they need to consider taking Wolfram and Hart, but Angel glares at him, and Gunn backpedals, saying they should consider working in an ever-expanding perimeter. He tells the gang that if they do decide to get into that limo, they'll be corrupted before they even arrive at Wolfram and Hart. He pulls on his jacket and heads out into the city to look for Connor. After Angel leaves, Gunn, Wes and Lorne head off to bed, leaving Fred alone in the lobby.

Later that night, Fred slips out of her room. She heads into the garden where the black limo is waiting. Wesley comes out of the shadows and tells her it has been there for a long time. Fred thought she was going to be the only one getting into the limo. Wes wasn't expecting her to show up. Gunn walks up. It looks like only the three of them are going to be getting into the limo -- looks like the human members of the fang gang were the most corruptible. As they begin to head towards the limo, Angel comes up behind them. He moves past them to the limo and opens the door. Lorne has already made himself at home. Everyone climbs in and they head off to the shiny new Wolfram and Hart building.

The Fang Gang is in an elevator when the doors open on the new Wolfram and hart lobby. It is bustling, and various people greet Angel. Lilah moves through the crowd. They've got a lot of ground to cover and four other people come up behind her -- a slick man, a gorgeous woman, a British man, and a man in a lab coat. They're the group's guides. Angel wasn’t expecting separate guides, and isn't keen on the divide and conquer idea. Angel wants the group to stay together. Lilah smiles -- if they wanted to kill them, they could have blown up the limo. A security guard rolls a weapons cart up, and Lilah lets them know they can arm themselves if they want. Fred grabs a weapon while Gunn keeps looking at his guide. Preston, the slick talent agent comes forward to show Lorne the entertainment division. He gives Lorne a folder of their talent roster. Lorne is delighted and moves off with his guide, even though he makes a show of moral outrage. Lilah introduces Wes to his guide, Rutherford Sirk, the British guy, and they head off. Gunn's guide is Lacey Shepherd, the beautiful super model. Fred's guide is Knox, the cute science geek. Angel's guide is none other than Lilah. She's eager to show him the chocolate factory.

Gunn thinks the tours are a pretty slick way to isolate Angel from the group. Lacey's amused by the fact Gunn assumes Angel is their main priority. Each member of the Fang Gang possesses useful gifts. Gunn's not sure what he has to offer until they walk past a security station. He assumes he's here to join the security staff, but Lacey keeps walking past; they have much grander plans for Gunn. She leads him into the elevator.

Knox leads Fred to the science division. He's strictly research and development, although he does play Dungeons and Dragons occasionally. He manages the department for Fred, the head of the department. They enter the ultramodern science wing, and Knox starts showing off their developments. He shows her a palm pilot that can hack into any device within 100 yards. He managed to hack into the address book on Fred's cell phone. She's impressed -- he's the MacGyver of Wolfram and Hart.

Sirk leads Wes into a large library and research room in the ancient prophecies wing. Wesley eyes the single shelf that has only thirty new-looking tomes on it. Sirk tells Wes that appearances can be deceiving. They have the most complete guide of prophecies. Sirk tells Wes to choose something to read, and Wes picks something rare, and Sirk picks up a tome and whispers to it. When he opens it, the codex Wes wanted appears. The tomes are templates that have access to all the books locked in the firm's archives. Wes is impressed, and he wonders if the Watchers Council knows that Sirk took the only copy of the codex with him when he left. Sirk remarks that there is no council left, which Wes already knows. Suddenly, he sends his elbow into Sirk's face, knocking him out. Wes throws the book aside and extends his arm. His telescoping sword comes out and the end turns into a grappling hook. He uses it to climb up to the level above.

Lilah leads Angel down a hallway, letting him know that his every whim will be catered to. They enter a lush office (Angel's) with its own private elevator. Cynically, Angel wonders if it would drop him into a vat of holy water, and Lilah says she was pushing for it. Instead, there's a motor pool with twelve cars so he can stay mobile. She then shows Angel the best part of the office -- the windows. She presses a remote button and the curtains open. Sunlight fills the room and catches Angel. He grunts and throws up his hands. But he doesn't burst into flames. Lilah says the whole building has been outfitted with necro-tempered glass. Angel closes his eyes and basks in the sunlight until he tells Lilah to close the curtains. Angel starts to leave; he's not taking the job. He doesn't want to be a part of Wolfram and Hart. Lilah tells him that he could make a huge difference in the world with the resources of Wolfram and Hart at his fingertips. The world is harsh and cruel, and Angel can change it. He can beat the system from the inside. She pulls a folder and amulet out of his desk drawer. He tenses, as the folder is about Sunnydale. The amulet is vital to a final battle there. Angel says that Buffy can handle herself, and he refuses to take Lilah's intel. She asks him if he'd take intel on missing persons and this catches his attention. With Wolfram and Hart's resources, he could locate Cordy and Connor in about ten seconds by picking up the phone. Angel says he's sorry for what happened to her, but he and his friends are leaving. He starts to move, when the phone rings. The senior partners want him to sample some of the amenities, and a large flat screen TV comes down from the ceiling. A news report comes on. Hostages have been taken at a local mall, and the assailant is Connor. Angel slams Lilah against the wall and grabs her by the throat. He's pissed off -- he thinks she set everything up. The senior partners have nothing to do with this. She knows who did this -- Angel. It's because of how Angel raised (or didn't raise) him. Angel starts to leave, and Lilah reminds him of the one time only offer that has been made to him. If he walks out the door, the deal is off and he doesn't get the Sunnydale file. He's not going to be a part of Wolfram and Hart in the way she thinks. He tells her that he's going to set the terms of the deal.

Gunn and Lacey are in the elevator. The ride has been going on for a while before Lacey presses a sequence of buttons on the control panel. Another button appears above the panel and she presses it. The answers that Gunn seeks are in the white room. He wants to go back to the lobby; he doesn't want to meet the White Room Girl's replacement. Everything fades to white and Gunn finds himself alone in the room. From the whiteness, a jaguar materializes and walks towards him. They look into each other's eyes, and his fear melts away. Gunn smiles.

The hostages are all sitting on the floor of a camping goods store. They all have homemade explosives attached to their bodies. One little girl is whimpering and her father tells her to shut up. Connor pulls the man's head back and tells him to be nice to her and to hold her right. The father tries to hold onto the girl tighter, but winces in pain. Connor moves off to tinker with his homemade explosives when Angel drops down behind him. He wants to know what Connor is doing.

Wes drops into the records room, knocking out a guard. He is looking for one file in particular. He starts rifling through a cabinet when Lilah comes out from a bank of cabinets. She was wondering how long it would take for him to get there. He has tons of information at his finger tips now. He didn't break into this room to find out Wolfram and Hart's secrets. He finally finds what he is looking for -- Lilah's contract. He broke into the room to free her, and he takes a cigarette lighter to the contract. He watches it burns. He wants Lilah to have some peace. She smiles at him sadly, saying she knew what she had signed on for. When the contract has turned to ash, Lilah tells him to look back in the draw. Her contract is back in her file. It means something to her that he tried to change her fate, even though he didn't succeed.

Connor sets off an explosion and warns Angel not to move. Everyone is rigged. Connor tells Angel that he can't save everyone. Connor doesn't even remember who is rigged to what. Connor is rigged up as well, and he looks sad and lost. He steps aside, and says that Cordy could even be the first one to go. Angel looks from Cordy, to Connor, to the rigged hostages. Angel tries to tell Connor that what he's going through is because of Jasmine. They're all feeling lost because of having to give up Jasmine's perfect love. Connor didn't feel anything though; he's dead inside. Angel tries to tell him that his life is just starting, but Connor doesn't buy it. Connor doesn't want Angel to apologize, and Angel tells him that he loves him. Connor refuses to believe him, thinking it is another lie. Nobody could love him. Darla killed herself rather than love him. He thinks Angel tried to love him, but ignores Angel telling him he still does. If Angel really loved him though, he never would have let Holtz take him away. Angel tries to tell Connor that he does have people that loved him, but Connor is too lost to listen to him. Angel wants to help him start over, but Connor says he can't. Death is the only thing that can change things. Before Connor can hurt himself or others, Angel moves towards him. A fight between father and son begins. They each use various items in the store as weapons in their fight. When Angel throws Connor across the room, he starts pulling wires off of the hostages. Angel keeps Connor away from the hostages as they escape. Connor tries to get to Cordy, so Angel grabs a knife from the display and throws it at him. It hits Connor in the thigh, and Angel uses this opportunity to knock him onto his back. He has the knife in his hands, and he raises it above his head. He tells Connor that he really does love him and then brings the knife down. Everything fades to white.

Lorne is singing in the lobby of Wolfram and Hart, reveling in the acoustics. Fred smiles as she comes back into the lobby. Wesley walks in, looked troubled, and Gunn comes in, different from when he entered the lobby. He's got quiet confidence. He tells them he's taking Wolfram and Hart's offer, even if nobody else is. Wes starts talking about how he thinks he will take the deal as well, when Angel comes up and says he's already taken it. Wes looks at Angel and notices the sadness in his eyes. He made an executive decision. Lilah gives Angel back the Sunnydale file and amulet. She tells him that Cordy's safe and sound, probably even getting a manicure. She's still in a coma, but she's getting the best of medical and mystical care. Angel wants to see Connor, but Lilah tells him that wasn't the part of the deal. She stops, and then tells him that he's the boss. A limo is waiting for him outside. As he leaves, Fred wonders who Connor is. Nobody else in the Fang Gang knows who Connor is either.

The limo travels along a mountain road, and pulls up to a comfortable house. When he gets out of the limo, he goes up to a window and looks in on a family. The father is telling his son that he has his pick of any college. The son is Connor. His aunt wants to know if Tracy, his girlfriend, and he are going to go to the same college. All in all, it is a happy family scene, even though Connor jokes about going to a college in Russia. His father starts a toast, but Connor stops him. It is his night, and he wants to make a toast to his family. Angel watches the toast then leaves. Much joking continues as the camera pulls back to see the limo heading back down the mountain.

It's not about winning, Cordelia, it's about what's at stake. And in this particular scenario you were way more important than winning.
