Deep Down
Deep Down

-- Quotes --

Written by Kristina

Angel, Fred, Wesley, Gunn, Cordy, Lorne, and Connor are seated around a dinner table, set up for what looks like a Thanksgiving feast. Angel wants to freeze the moment, as it is perfect. Wesley makes a toast to family, and the gang raises their wineglasses (well, except Connor, who has milk, and Angel, whose glass is empty). Cordy fills it for him, and he sets it down on the table. Angel and Cordy lean in for a kiss, but are interrupted by Connor. Angel roughs up his hair playfully, and then the gang begins to eat; however, they ignore Angel, and the dishes of food pass him by. When he is finally able to grab a dish, it is empty. In shock, he watches as his water glass falls to the floor, and shatters. The water from the glass begins spreading over the floor, and when he looks up, only Connor is left. Connor tells Angel to freeze the moment, and Angel wakes up, trapped at the bottom of the ocean.

Fred and Gunn race through an alley to Gunn's truck. They jump in, but as they drive off, a vampire jumps onto the windshield, and shatters it with his fist. A group of three other vamps pull up, and get out of their car, as Fred and Gunn get out of the truck. They want to know where Marissa is (she's the vampire whose feeding grounds are near the bluffs where Angel disappeared.) The vamps tell them where to find Marissa, then they move in for the kill. Fred and Gunn do a fair job of holding their own, but the vamps have the advantage - until Connor catches an ax, and beheads a vampire with it. Happily.

Back at the Hyperion, Fred and Gunn chastise Connor for running off while they were working, because he divided their strength. Gunn orders Connor to polish the ax, while he and Fred discuss whether or not to tell Connor about their new lead. Lorne is too busy in Las Vegas to return their calls, and they've spent the summer trying to locate Angel without any luck. Bills are piling up, and Gunn is pessimistic about how much longer they'll be able to stay in the hotel. They agree that they won't say much until they find Marissa.

Angel is standing on the bluffs, waiting for Cordy. She finally arrives, and they move closer together. This new version of "Tomorrow" is inter-cut with flashes of Angel and Connor fighting, and tumbling over the side of the cliff. Cordy tells Angel she likes this version better, and they kiss. Angel pulls back, goes vamp face and bites into Cordy's neck. After drinking briefly, he pulls back, realizing what he's done, but goes back to feeding from Cordy. He wakes up once more in his watery grave.

Connor finally finds out about Gunn and Fred's lead on Marissa, and he wants to go with them - he reminds them that Angel is his father, and that he wants to find him too (not!). While Connor gets a weapon, Gunn and Fred discuss their options, once again. Fred tries to say they should get Wesley to help them, but Gunn cuts her off. He reminds her that Wesley made his choice, and has to live with that now.

Lilah and Wesley are both naked and sweaty in Wesley's bed. As Lilah gets dressed to go back to work, she subtly probes Wesley for information on Angel's whereabouts. He laughs, and tells her that he knows nothing about Angel's location, nor does he care about it. After a deep kiss, Lilah leaves. Wesley puts on some pants, and opens a closet door to reveal Justine, chained and gagged. He tells her that it's time for a boat ride.

Wesley and Justine are in a similar boat to the one she used with Connor to give Angel his burial at sea. Wesley is charted the areas they have searched, while monitoring the radar to see if they can pick up Angel's coffin. Justine thinks it's funny how Wesley is now "banging" the enemy, and keeping her in the closet. She wants to know why Wesley wants to save Angel. Wesley hits below the belt when he asks Justine if her dead sister would be proud of what she's done with her life. Justine tries to hit Wesley with a large wrench, but stops when he threatens to take away her bucket.

Connor bursts into Marissa's apartment ahead of Fred and Gunn. Nobody appears to be home, but Connor hears a Walkman playing underneath some covers. Marissa falls on top of Connor from her hiding place in the ceiling, and a fight ensues. Connor manages to hold a sword to her throat, and begins questioning her about Angel's whereabouts. When Connor relieves some of the pressure on Marissa's throat, she punches him, and escapes by jumping through a window. Without hesitating, Connor follows her. He finally catches up to her on the roof of a building. She shows her human face, and offers to be with Connor. He whips out a stake, and dusts her. In order to make it look like there was a scuffle, he rips one of his shirt's sleeves, and cuts his skin with the stake. Gunn and Fred are none too pleased when they learn that there only lead has turned into dust. Connor runs off, leaving Fred to defend Connor to Gunn.

Connor is crouched, Spiderman like, on the roof of a building. Angel comes up behind him. They begin to exchange words, when a group of vampires comes up on them. Angel and Connor share a look, and then begin fighting the vamps, as a team. After annihilating their attackers, Angel walks up to Connor, thanks him, then breaks his neck. For the third time this night, Angel wakes up screaming in his coffin.

Lorne is having his face powdered in a Las Vegas dressing room, when Fred is finally able to get a hold of him. Lorne doesn't have much time to talk - he hasn't talked to any of his leads, because he's been so busy performing. He tells Fred to make sure "fluffy" is getting enough love, and hangs up. When Gunn laments the possibility of not having a roof over his head, Fred offers to make him a hat. She reassures him that things will work out.

Over at the law offices of Wolfram and Hart, Lilah, Linwood and Gavin are discussing the breakthrough Gavin has had with the psychics, concerning Angel's whereabouts. It is obvious that Gavin is Linwood's favored employee. Linwood questions Lilah about what she has been doing with her private time (i.e. sleeping with Wesley). She tells Linwood it is none of his business - she isn't sleeping with Wesley for information - in fact, Wesley is just as clueless as they are (or so she thinks). Linwood tells Lilah there is a staff meeting in an hour, and he and Gavin leave Lilah alone in the hall.

Wesley has discovered a bleep on the radar that looks coffin-like. Justine dons a wet suit to check if it is. They have found Angel's coffin, and they hoist it, with chains, out of the ocean. Wesley removes the lid of the coffin, when Angel's hand reaches up and grabs Wes around the neck. Not panicking, Wesley removes Angel's hand, and lays it on his chest. Grabbing Angel, he lays him out on the table inside the boat's cabin. He gets out some jars of blood, and begins feeding it to Angel. Justine reminds Wes that Angel and company hate him, and so there is no point in his helping out Angel. Wesley ignores her, and continues feeding Angel.

In the Hyperion, Fred and Gunn are sitting when Connor comes in. Connor wants to know if Gunn is going to yell at him, and true to form, Gunn does. Gunn remarks that Connor is a lot like his father, to which Connor reacts badly. Seeing a conflict brewing, Fred suggests Connor go up to his room, and get ready for bed. Eager to escape, Connor goes. Fred tries to calm Gunn down, and reminds him that Connor has been through a lot this past summer. Fred and Gunn begin to kiss, when the phone interrupts them. Thinking it may be a client, Gunn goes over to the desk, and picks it up.

Angel is hallucinating on the table in the boat's cabin. He sees Lorne, and remarks that this isn't how life should be - everything he touches turns to ashes. Justine watches him, coolly. Wesley comes back in, and Justine tells him that Angel won't shut up. Angel tries to get up, and Wesley walks over and restrains him gently. When Angel looks at Wesley, however, he sees Connor, and says he should have killed him when he had a chance. This sends Justine into a fit of laughter. Wesley realizes that pig's blood won't be enough to cure Angel - he needs human blood. Terrified, Justine refuses to feed Angel, and Wesley tells her that her blood is too thin - he's going to do it himself. Reluctant at first, Angel finally begins to drink more deeply from the self-inflicted cut in Wesley's arm.

Alone in the meeting room, Lilah caresses Linwood's chair, until other lawyers come in with Gavin and Linwood. They take their seats, and the meeting begins. Linwood begins talking about Lilah and all of her screw-ups, and how she might be better off in the office of a third-world dimension. Lilah apologizes for her mistakes, but says that fear was never one of them. She accuses Linwood of not having enough courage to do what it takes to control Angel and Connor. When she reveals that she has spoken with Mr. Suvarta, a senior partner, Linwood can't believe she went over his head. Calmly, Lilah touches her stylus to her palm pilot, and a blade lashes out from the back of Linwood's chair, decapitating him. Lilah informs the people in the meeting room that they will all report to her now, and then orders them out. Before Gavin can leave, Lilah asks him to remove Linwood's head.

Connor is in his room, playing a video game, when Fred comes in with a snack for him. She gives him his tray and sits down on the side of his bed. She strokes his hair, and tells him that she knows he has been through a lot - it must have hurt to grow up in Quortoth, but it'll hurt more when he pays for what he did to his father. The proverbial poop has finally hit the fan for Connor, and Fred pulls out a taser and uses it on him.

Fred and Gunn have tied Connor up in the office. Connor wants to know why they are doing this, but Fred refuses to answer.

She tells Connor she got a call from an old friend, and learned of Connor's duplicitous nature. Angered and outraged, Fred begins to taser Connor again. Gunn stops her, and she cries into his shoulder.

Wesley is loading Angel into his car, as Justine watches, handcuffed to some metal bars on the dock. She reminds Wesley that he's doing this for nothing - his (ex) friends are never going to take him back - they're just going to turn on him again. Before driving off, Wesley reminds Justine that it is her choice whether or not she remains a slave for the rest of her life.

Fred is sitting outside of the office, while Gunn rubs her back. She tells Connor that he has nothing inside, and Connor taunts her by inviting her to cut him open and see. He tells her that Angel got what he deserved. Fred wants to know how long they would have gotten what they deserved from Connor. Before they can continue on, Wesley half-carries, half-supports Angel into the lobby of the Hyperion. Wesley lays Angel on the settee - Angel is very clearly out of it. He groans, and closes his eyes. As Wesley walks to the door, he tells Fred and Gunn to give Angel blood - he's all out.

Gunn is about to get Angel some blankets, when he hears a chair toppling in the office. Connor has escaped. Gunn tries to stop him, but he is thrown into a corner. When Fred tries to taser Connor, he turns the taser on her, and she lands in a heap on top of Gunn. Connor turns to leave, but Angel blocks his path out of the office. Angel tells Connor to sit down, and Connor obeys. Angel sets Connor straight about Holtz's supposed vampire death - it was actually an assisted suicide. Justine pierced Holtz's neck with an ice pick to make it look like a vampire - Angel - had killed him, just to give Connor motivation to send him to the bottom of the ocean. Connor believes Angel still deserved being at the bottom of the ocean, but Angel says that what he deserves is open to debate. He reminds Connor there is a difference between wishing vengeance on someone, and taking action on that wish. Connor tries to leave, but Angel calmly throws him against a wall.

Angel crouches beside Connor, wanting to know what he did to Cordelia. Connor vehemently denies doing anything, and Angel believes him. He's heard enough of Connor's lies to know when he is telling the truth. Angel tells Connor to get up. Angel says that being at the bottom of the ocean for three months wasn't as bad as being in a hell dimension for a hundred years. He gained perspective while he was down there - the world isn't as it is supposed to be. It's harsh and cruel, yet that is why there are champions, like him and Connor. They are there to make the world as it should be. But Connor isn't at that point yet.

Angel tells Connor that he loves him, and then orders him out of the hotel. Connor studies Angel, and then finally leaves. Angel leans against the wall, and Gunn and Fred run over to him. They tell him he needs to rest, but he says they need to find Cordelia.

Swirling lights give way to a familiar face. Cordelia. She is immobile, surrounded by light. And she's bored.
